Fisherman's Paradise!

Where to Fish in Memphis

Calling all anglers—Memphis and its surrounding areas offer a variety of prime fishing spots, from serene forested lakes to the Mighty Mississippi River. Here's your guide to the best fishing in Memphis, including a legendary spot right on our riverfront.

The Legend of Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid

In 2005, Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris and legendary Tennessee fisherman Bill Dance made a unique bet. While fishing on the Mississippi River, they decided to transform the city’s vacant 322-foot-tall pyramid into a Bass Pro Shops store—if they could catch a giant catfish.

Shortly after, Morris hooked a massive Mississippi River catfish, paving the way for creating the world’s largest fishing tackle store. Today, Bass Pro Shops at The Pyramid on Memphis' downtown riverfront draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Inside, you can explore aquariums, museums, restaurants, and a viewing deck. True to its origins, the store is stocked with fishing tackle, from new rods and reels to lures and lines.

Fishing the Mississippi River

Once you’ve geared up at Bass Pro Shops, the Mississippi River offers excellent fishing opportunities. Known for its abundant catfish, the river also hosts a variety of other fish species, making it a favorite spot for both local and visiting anglers. The river's diverse fishing environment, with its deep channels and varying currents, provides a thrilling experience for any fishing enthusiast.
